Ugandans abroad protest Museveni's regime, and called for the U.S. to stop funding Uganda.

The beginning of the new year and decade has seen many international protests against the Ugandan government, many organized by the Ugandans in the diaspora.

-On Jan. 22nd, 200 Ugandans and Americans demonstrated in Washington, D.C. at the White House, Capitol Hill, International Monetary Fund, and World Bank.  The protestors called for the U.S. to stop supporting the NRM regime through foreign aid, and delivered a petition to the U.S. Congress.  Community organization Ugandans in Diaspora coordinated the protest.  The Independent reported this story on Feb. 9th.

-On Jan 223rd and 26th, Ugandans and Americans also demonstrated in Boston and New York, with similar requests.

-Numerous protests have also been organized by human rights groups around the world, in response to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009 that was introduced to the Ugandan parliament last year by MP David Bahati.  The bill that was introduced included the death penalty for gay people living with HIV, and life imprisonment for homosexuality.  It also included a provision to extradite gay Ugandans living abroad.
