The loss of CBS has been a serious financial blow to the Buganda Kingdom.

Last Friday, Kampala High Court threw out a counter claim by the Attorney General against CBS, which would have caused the radio to pay damages to the government for allegedly violating the Electronic Media Act.

Earlier, over 100 CBS employees sued the government for sh3billion for losing their livelihood when the station was shut down after being accused of inciting riots, according to reporting by the Daily Monitor.

The Buganda kingdom’s treasurer says the closing of CBS Radio has cost the kingdom about sh31 million a day in lost revenue, including a loss of opportunity in selling Buganda certificates.  The kingdom is running a budget deficit and is sh12 billion in debt, according to reporting by the Observer’s David Tash Lumu.

This Sunday, Maj. General Kahinda Otafire called on the Baganda to forget CBS being closed, and to focus on securing a larger political leadership role in the country.  He argued this at Bulange in Mengo, after being invited to present a paper on youth’s involvement in politics, according to reporting by Ultimate Media.
